stable version of debian gets released approximately every 2 years. receive official support 3 years update major security or usability fixes. point releases available every several months determined stable release managers (srm).


debian launched long term support (lts) project since debian 6 (debian squeeze). each debian release, receive 2 years of security updates provided lts team after end of life (eol). however, no point releases made. each debian release can receive 5 years of security support in total.
