it announced 1998 season have 20 teams competing, 19 super league/arl teams , melbourne storm, owned news limited. clubs on both sides of war shut down. news decided close hunter mariners , financially ruined western reds, $10million in debt @ end of 1997, while arl decided close down south queensland crushers, in severe financial trouble.
