the elevated western link extends existing tullamarine freeway, lengthening terminate 5 kilometres further south @ west gate freeway in port melbourne. includes new major bridge (the bolte bridge, named after former premier sir henry bolte) on yarra river in docklands; long elevated section on dudley flats , moonee ponds creek , tube-like sound barrier in flemington road passes close number of community housing towers. short distance north of sound tube, massive sculptural work placed, called melbourne international gateway, consisting of giant yellow beam hanging diagonally across road (nicknamed cheesestick ) , row of smaller red beams alongside road (the zipper , or rack of lamb ). tullamarine freeway widened bell street flemington road, transit lane being added in each direction.

southern link

the underground southern link directly connects ends of west gate , monash freeways 1 continuous through-way. link comprises burnley , domain tunnels pass under royal botanic gardens , yarra river, each tunnel channelling traffic in different directions. link includes connection cbd monash freeway on bridge extension of exhibition street on nearby railway lines.
