in 1886, e. remington , sons sold typewriter business , rights remington name standard typewriter manufacturing company in 1902 changed name remington typewriter company. in 1927 rand kardex merged remington typewriter. new company called remington rand, , kardex division , brand of company.


remington rand led james rand jr. duration of independent existence. company sales grew $5 million in 1927 $500 million in 1954, although market share suffered in face of competition ibm.


remington rand purchased eckert–mauchly computer corporation in 1950, delivered univac in 1951, , bought engineering research associates in 1952, making them major player in new computer industry.
