political career

lomako joined communist party in 1925. in 1939 made assistant people s commissar (narkom) nonferrous metallurgy, , in 1940 promoted post of narkom. lomako deputy of supreme soviet of ussr, being elected in 2nd , 4th through 8th elections body, serving between 1946 , 1950 , 1954 1989.


second world war

as industrial narkom, lomako played important role in maintaining soviet industry after outbreak of war in 1941. in particular, responsible managing mass evacuation of soviet industry ural mountains region.


post-war

following second world war, lomako remained narkom , subsequently minister nonferrous metallurgy until 1948. between 1948 , 1950, served deputy minister iron , steel industry. returned original portfolio minister in 1950, , made deputy minister iron , steel once again in 1951, before serving third time minister nonferrous metallurgy between 1954 , 1957.


in 1957 lomako left sovmin, becoming chairman of krasnoyarsk people s economic council (sovnarkhoz), position held until 1961.


party career

lomako candidate member of central committee of cpsu @ 19th , 20th congresses of cpsu. @ 22nd congress of cpsu in 1961, elected member, , became vice-president of rsfsr bureau of committee, served until 1962.


lomako deselected central committee @ 25th party congress in 1976.


chairman of gosplan

pyotr lomako selected succeed veniamin dymshits chairman of gosplan, state planning committee, on 24 november 1962. lomako oversaw transitional period between nikita khrushchev , leonid brezhnev, , therefore responsible coordinating soviet economy @ time of economic uncertainty. lomako deputy chairman of sovmin during period, fell under direct influence of alexei kosygin, reformist premier.


lomako responsible coordinating reformist economic policy, , argued contemporary western analysts such g. w. simmonds have been removed brezhnev in 1965 part of bid weaken kosygin s power , reintroduce economic conservatism.


after removal gosplan, lomako served minister non-ferrous metallurgy until 1985. died in 1990 @ age of 85.
