history: wratten & wainwright verichrome introduced around 1907/8 offering greater spectral sensitivity , speed compared contemporary emulsions of time. company bought kodak in 1912. in 1931 kodak released film on safety base roll film, greater latitude , finer grain kodak nc (non-curling) film had been standard since 1903. kodak verichrome safety film replaced kodak verichrome pan film in 1956.

type: high-speed black & white negative film. kodak s standard high-speed film 1940 1954, when tri-x introduced in smaller formats. discontinued sometime before 1960 in roll-film formats, continued made in sheet film until 1992.
speed: daylight asa 100, later 200, when safety factor reduced. pushed easily.
characteristics: thick emulsion, relatively coarse grain
resolving power: fair, due low acutance thickness of emulsion
advantages: very, long, straight-line characteristic curve, great latitude made ideal variable developments, both longer , shorter, water-bath development, special compensating formulas.
special attraction: zone system users. missed large-format film photographers, of whom stockpiled huge amounts in deep freeze.

kodak technical pan 2415

type: (no iso speed rating; circa ei 100-250 in practice), ultra-high definition high-contrast film coated on thin plastic base avoid curl.
to use pictorial purposes, (ei 16-25) use special, dilute weak-acting developers, minimal agitation.
capable of extreme resolution, miniature format negatives (35 mm only) closely imitated results of large-format negatives.

first practical color reversal film; first commercially-important color film of kind.
launch date: 1935, first motion picture film, (1936) still cameras (kodachrome, asa 8, later 10). kodachrome professional type (for 3400 k photofloods, asa 16, later asa 40), , kodachrome type f (for flash; stopped being made in 1950s).
replaced kodachrome ii (asa 25) in 1961. kodachrome-x (asa 64) added in 1962; later kodachrome 200 , kodachrome professional 64 , 200 added.
special development process required, multiple dyeing steps, because there no dye-couplers in film. processing purchased film until justice department sued around 1954, claiming monopolistic practice. there relatively few competitors however, complex developing machinery necessary.
extremely fine grain, high saturation, sharpest color film ever made.
originally available in larger roll film formats , sheet film (until late 1940s, beginning of 1950s). kodak kept urging replacement ektachrome, developed user or many independent laboratories.
popular 35mm film photographers long after had been discontinued in other formats.
discontinued: 2009. last processor in world closed down kodachrome line @ end of 2010.
