taunggyi melting pot myelat area of shan state. in of myanmar, influence of buddhism evidenced monasteries scattered throughout city. however, being relatively new city, monasteries not of historical significance , architecturally not unique. there significant christian population, center of roman catholic archdiocese of taunggyi st. joseph s cathedral , associated seminary main facilities, baptist church. both churches established missionaries. there smaller anglican church, served british administrators, has fallen state of disrepair. 4 mosques serve muslim communities of city. among 4 mosques, panthay mosque serves chinese panthay muslims mainly. other mosques large population of burmese muslims. there few temples serving chinese buddhist community.


after 1990s, chinese migrants settling in taunggyi , constitute considerable proportion in communities. government fails detect illegal migration , investigate immigration officers approving faked nationality.that enhances more migration of chinese china through eastern part of shan state.


being capital of shan state, taunggyi hosts many government offices. city hosts eastern command of tatmadaw (myanmar military) , occupies significant portion of north-east area of city.


shan state cultural museum lies in taunggyi. museum displays shan culture, items of historical interest, such belongings of sawbwa.
