early career

after successful career @ cherry orchard in 1997 dempsey signed 4-year contract everton , moved merseyside after 16th birthday. spent 4 years @ everton , part of team won fa youth cup likes of richard dunne , francis jeffers. dempsey returned bray on 2 spells scored total of on 5 goals in 58 total appearances. moved on waterford united awarded supporters player of year 2001-02 league of ireland season.


scotland

in 2002, signed scottish side dunfermline athletic, made 80 league appearances on three-year period, scoring 7 league goals. scored on debut against celtic @ parkhead in front of 66,000 fans. @ dunfermline, gary established himself regular in team , won young player of year in first season. in second season, helped dunfermline 2004 scottish cup final against celtic in great henrik larsson s last game. having lost final 3–1, dunfermline secured place in 2004-05 uefa cup lost icelandic part timers fimleikafélag hafnarfjarðar 4–3 on aggregate dempsey scoring in home leg @ mcdiarmid park.

he signed darlington along former shamrock rovers striker tadhg purcell in january 2010. made full league debut against rotherham united ended in 2–1 win new club. released darlington following relegation league 2, along 13 other players.


on 30 july 2010, dempsey signed former club bray wanderers dempsey player of month april 2011 , capped off season winning clubs player of year award went on decline new contract @ bray sign waterford united. started league campaign 6–0 loss against south-east rivals wexford youths, went on beat hot favourites title limerick 3–1. in third game went on score first club hit free kick 25 yards, in goal vs salthill devon.


he re-signed bray wanderers on 11 january 2013. in july 2014 dempsey signed shelbourne f.c. in league of ireland first division.
