the original interior of englert theatre shown in advertisement in 1918 iowa city high school annual (yearbook). features orchestra pit, , original box seating along sidewalls.


when opened, englert seated 1,079 side aisles, , without center aisle. college students , faculty , town residents attended performances; theater of kind in iowa city.


an opening night performance thomas w. ross & co. play production of son, less 2 years later filmed under same name, co-directed cecil b. demille.
