in june 1988, traylor joined wwf big boss man , corrections officer character. wrestling heel , managed slick, boss man s post-match routine included handcuffing defeated opponents ring rope , beating them nightstick or ball , chain.

after defeating koko b. ware @ inaugural summerslam, boss man began first major wwf angle attacking hulk hogan on brother love show . during feud, challenged randy savage wwf championship, , formed team akeem (formerly billed 1 man gang, uwf opponent) form twin towers. feuded hogan , savage (who had formed mega powers), , key part in top storyline of savage turning on hogan, leading wrestlemania v main event; in later part of tag match between 4 on saturday night s main event, hogan abandoned savage attend hurt miss elizabeth , went backstage. after being double-teamed while, savage rallied , defeated twin towers on own. led mega powers demise savage beat hulk in backstage medical room fellow wrestlers, managers , staff had break them up.

at wrestlemania v, twin towers defeated rockers (shawn michaels , marty jannetty) , then, of spring , summer 1989, feuded demolition (ax , smash) on tag team championship. meanwhile, boss man concluded feud hogan in series of steel cage matches; 1 of memorable aired on may 27 episode of saturday night s main event, hogan s wwf championship on line. during match, hogan superplexed boss man off top of cage.

in fall of 1990, boss man began feuding bobby heenan , heenan family after heenan continually insulted boss man s mother. won series of matches against heenan family members in 1991, including barbarian @ royal rumble , mr. perfect (via disqualification) @ wrestlemania vii in intercontinental championship match, featured return of andré giant. @ summerslam, defeated mountie in jailhouse match, match in loser must spend night in jail. such match ever held promotion. boss man briefly feuded irwin r. schyster.

in 1992, boss man began feuding nailz, ex-convict character who, in series of promos aired before debut, claimed boss man had been abusive officer in prison, , warned seeking revenge. on may 30 episode of wwf superstars, nailz — clad in orange prison jumpsuit — ran ring , attacked boss man, handcuffing him top rope , repeatedly choking , beating him nightstick. boss man took time off tv sell (kayfabe) injuries, returning , having series of matches nailz in latter half of 1992. feud culminated @ survivor series, when boss man defeated nailz in nightstick on pole match. final push boss man during run, subsequently used enhancement talent against razor ramon, bam bam bigelow, , yokozuna on house show circuit.

the big boss man s last pay-per-view match of run came @ 1993 royal rumble, lost bam bam bigelow. left wwf shortly after house show in gatineau, quebec on march 14. during next few months made appearances in uswa , smw. on december 4 made one-time return wwf special guest referee officiate main event of house show in anaheim, ca between bret hart , jeff jarrett. bossman expected rejoin wwf elected sign wcw instead.

traylor returned united states debut world championship wrestling (wcw), boss , on december 18, 1993 episode of wcw saturday night, pinning international world champion, rick rude, in non-title match. face, received title match against rude @ starrcade 93: 10th anniversary, lost. in light of legal complaints wwf regarding similarity of boss big boss man , traylor renamed guardian angel , , wore similar attire in organization named after. feuded big van vader of 1994. in 1995, turned heel, , became again known big bubba rogers . defeated sting @ uncensored in 1995.

dungeon of doom , feud nwo (1996–1998)

in 1996, rogers joined dungeon of doom. feuded former dungeon of doom member john tenta, , newcomer glacier. end of year, had turned on dungeon of doom , joined nwo. stay in nwo brief, traylor knocked out unknown assailant @ start of february 17, 1997 edition of nitro, traylor later explaining eric bischoff fired him nwo while temporarily paralyzed. traylor returned on september 1, using real name , vowing rip bischoff s head off. feuded nwo, defeating members such scott hall, curt hennig, , vincent. formed alliance steiner brothers, sought dibiase manager. union abruptly ended when scott steiner turned on them join nwo in february 1998. after losing final wcw match bill goldberg on march 30 episode of nitro, traylor sat out , let contract expire.

traylor rejoined wwf shortly after wcw release , once again became big boss man . on october 12, 1998, returned television new look, abandoning blue police shirt all-black swat-style uniform, including tactical vest , gloves. served vince mcmahon s bodyguard during feud stone cold steve austin , later feud d-generation x. briefly wore mask, before identity revealed.

boss man 1 of first members of mcmahon s heel stable, corporation, , served bodyguard other members, such vince s son shane. while in corporation, boss man won tag team championship ken shamrock, won hardcore championship 4 times, , lost undertaker @ wrestlemania xv in hell in cell match. after match, undertaker hanged him roof of cage (an illusion made possible body harness concealed under traylor s outfit).

in wwf s hardcore division, boss man s major feud al snow, feud involved snow s pet chihuahua, pepper. @ summerslam, 2 had falls count anywhere match spilled backstage area, street and, finally, nearby bar. prior match, snow had set pepper s pet carrier near entranceway. minutes match, boss man picked up, taunted pepper, struck snow carrier , carelessly tossed behind him. commentator jim ross apologized viewers act, , stated pepper had been removed box before match.
