on 8 january 1945, division began movement leyte , samar, take part in cleaning out remaining japanese forces on islands, , invade biri, capul, ticao, , burias. on leyte, division relieved on 13 march 1945 , landed on cebu on 26 march, , seized city , airfield 28 march. divisional combat teams made landings on bohol, negros, , mindanao, cleared out pockets of resisting japanese until 17 june when ordered return cebu, arriving on 25 june. americal division added newly local filipino troops of philippine commonwealth army , philippine constabulary , recognized guerrillas liberated in visayas , mindanao against japanese.


training continued on cebu proposed invasion of japan, japanese surrendered on 14 august 1945. on 10 september 1945, americal division landed in japan , took part in occupation of yokohama–kawasaki–yokosuka area.
