he born eduard august carl friedrich steinkopff, possibly in frankfort, , may have been jewish. started on commercial career took him comparatively young man glasgow, worked trader in german-owned chemical trading firm of leisler, bock & co. specialised in potash, iodine , soap. steinkopff gave de:louis leisler touching devoted gratitude rest of life. afterwards in business himself commission merchant, living @ 204 west regent street, glasgow, , in c1878 in st. vincent street (or place). later leased dargavel house in erskine, renfrewshire, mile distant bishopton railway station.
