guitarist jon hudson joined band after departure of dean menta. regarding menta, billy gould said didn t fire dean because asshole, didn t fire dean because of anything, because couldn t write. , had written songs wasn t working. toured fine. producer roli mosimann encouraged band utilize pro tools during recording process, had never done before. gould stated said there things d change in pro tools. example of roli s editing song mouth mouth. wasn t sounding right @ all. throwaway song. roli liked one, ended taking [acoustic] drums in choruses , moving them verses in pro tools. gave song whole new life.
