there no law in country officially recognizes single individual father of nation . either title may associated of following prominent historical persons, owing impact on country during respective times:


alikhan bukeikhanov (march 5, 1866 – september 27, 1937) kazakh statesman, politician, publicist, teacher, writer , environmental scientist. leader , founder of alash orda national liberation movement. sided westernizers in kazakh political scene promoting idea of western culture kazakh steppe. in 1920, after establishment of soviet hegemony, bukeikhanov joined bolshevik party , returned scientific life. earlier political activities caused authorities view him suspicion, leading arrests in 1926 , 1928. in 1926, bukeikhanov arrested on charge of counter-revolutionary activity , put butyrka prison in moscow. due lack of evidence in criminal case against him, released prison. in 1930, authorities banished him moscow, arrested final time in 1937 , executed.


dinmukhamed kunayev (january 12, 1912 – august 22, 1993) kazakh soviet communist politician. became first secretary of central committee of communist party of kazakhstan again in 1964 when khrushchev ousted , replaced brezhnev. kept position twenty-two more years. alternate member of politburo 1967, , full member 1971 1987. during kunayev s long rule, kazakhs occupied prominent positions in bureaucracy, economy , educational institutions. brezhnev loyalist, removed office under pressure mikhail gorbachev, accused him of corruption. on 16 december 1986 politburo replaced him gennady kolbin, had never lived in kazakh ssr before. provoked street riots in almaty, first signs of ethnic strife during gorbachev s tenure. in modern kazakhstan, revolt called jeltoqsan, meaning december in kazakh.


nursultan nazarbayev elected nation s first president following independence soviet union in december 1991. in 2010 parliament of kazakhstan named him Елбасы (elbasy) means leader of nation .
