on november 9, 2005, myers received presidential medal of freedom. citation reads:



for 4 decades, general richard myers has served our nation honor , distinction. flew 600 combat hours in vietnam war. later served commander in chief of north american aerospace defense command , u.s. space command. chairman of joint chiefs of staff, general myers played central role in our nation s defense while devoting himself well-being of men , women wear uniform of united states armed forces. united states honors general richard myers dedication duty , country , contributions freedom , security of our nation.



in 2006, general myers accepted part-time appointment foundation professor of military history @ kansas state university. same year, elected board of directors of northrop grumman corporation, world’s third largest defense contractor. on 13 september 2006, joined board of directors of united technologies corporation. serves on boards of aon corporation, john deere, uso , holds colin l. powell chair national security, leadership, character , ethics @ national defense university. has advised defense health board , served on army war college board of visitors.


on july 26 2011, myers inducted air force reserve officer training corps distinguished alumni in ceremony @ maxwell afb, alabama, officiated lt. gen. allen g. peck, commander, air university.


on april 14, 2016, myers selected interim president of kansas state university began on april 20. on november 15, 2016, board of regents removed interim title , announced myers become university s 14th president.


myers serves chairman of general richard b. myers biomedical equipment technology school @ medisend college of biomedical engineering technology.
