we found fine haul of wounded , brought them in; not heard fellow calling, had shot it, , came across splendid specimen of humanity trying wriggle trench big wound in thigh. 14 stone weight, , not lift him on back; managed him old trench, , told him lie quiet while got stretcher. man 30 yards out sang out don’t forget me, cobber. went in , got 4 volunteers stretchers, , got both men in safely.
