the star research, development , innovation programme - space technology , advanced research 2012-2019 period, approved law no. 262/2011, instrument through ministry of education, youth , sports - national authority scientific research (ancs) ensures, through romanian space agency (rosa) lead organization of program, national support implementation of agreement between romania , european space agency (esa) on romania s accession esa convention.

romanian experiment on sts-133

the final flight of nasa s space shuttle discovery - nasa mission sts-133 - transported romanian experiment created romanian institute space science international space station.

growth , survival of colored fungi in space (cfs-a) experiment designed determine effect of microgravity , cosmic radiation on growth , survival of colored fungi species.

principal investigators: dumitru hasegan, romanian institute space science, bucharest. (esa). launch of sts-133 took place on february 24, 2011. more details visit mission s official webpage.

goliat

goliat first romanian artificial microsatellite, launched on february 13, 2012. selected launched orbit european vega rocket, on first operational flight.

the entire system developed , designed rosa in collaboration institute of space science , bitnet , elprof companies, between 2005 , 2007. microsatellite cube sides of 10 inches , weight of 1 kilogram.

the goliat mission funded national authority scientific exploration within national excellence research programm , has educational character, being first microsatellite launched in rosa space in programme.

robisat

robisat represents second romanian artificial nanosatellites mission. mission composed out of 2 cubesat 2u type satellites , supposed part of qb50 constellation. sent iss in second quarter of 2017 on cygnus crs oa-7 mission postponed indefinitely. 2 nanosatellites, called robisat 1 , robisat 2, built @ institute of space science located in magurele, romania.

joining esa

the first agreement between romania , european space agency (esa) signed in 1992, followed in 1999 romania-esa agreement on cooperation in peaceful exploration , use of space. since 2007, romania contributes esa budget european cooperating state (pecs), status ratified law no. 1/2007.

on december 22, 2011, romania became 19th member of european space agency.

an important step in accession process conduct technical audit on relevant entities in romania (institutes, research centers, industrial companies , smes), have space technological capabilities. audit conducted esa, based on sample of 130 entities, 50 of them being organized technical visits , interviews.

the full member state of european space agency status gives organizations in romania access, in same way esa countries, programs run, , important technology transfer , opening of high-tech market. also, intellectual property maintained @ national level, having important role in establishment of competence in country.

research
rosa research center

the rosa research center (rrc) organized in 1998 entity legally represented rosa. rrc joined research capacities in unique management. step joint venture agreements concluded cruta – romanian center remote sensing applications in agriculture – sme laboratory organized independent branch of ispif (research , development institute land use). joint venture agreement concluded institute of space science in bucharest. since 2001, rrc has been selected ministry of education , research center of excellence in space applications.

since 2006, on behalf of romanian government, rosa strengthened relationship esa signing pecs agreement. fields of science , technology knowledge developed rrc are: space dynamics, in particular small satellites , tethered systems, magnetic fluids , magneto-fluidic composites; earth observation (remote sensing) satellite data retrieval, processing, algorithms , software development, applications development; spatial information systems integration, global navigation satellite systems , space technology risk management , security.

rrc developed, since 2003, r&d projects addressing national strategy, technological development in gnss field. 1 of last projects, “capacity, infrastructure , applications gnss-galileo” directly addressed problem of extending egnos in eastern europe through infrastructure development.
