bharatanatyam classical dance form originating in tamil nadu. thought have been created bharata muni. in ancient times bharatanatyam performed mandir (hindu temple) devadasis. many of ancient sculptures in hindu temples based on bharatanatyam dance postures karanas.


odissi 1 of oldest surviving forms of dance, depictions of odissi dancing dating far 1st century bc. other forms of indian classical dance, odissi style traces origins antiquity. dancers found depicted in bas-relief in hills of udaygiri (near bhubaneswar) dating 1st century bc. natya shastra speaks of dance region , refers odra-magadhi.


kathakali (katha story, kali performance or play) form of dance-drama. originated in south indian state of kerala on 500 years ago. spectacular combination of drama, dance, music , ritual. characters vividly painted faces , elaborate costumes re-enact stories hindu epics, mahabharata , ramayana.


kuchipudi classical dance form andhra pradesh, telangana, state of south india. kuchipudi name of small village in divi taluq of krishna district borders bay of bengal , resident brahmins practising traditional dance form, acquired present name. mohiniaattam traditional dance south indian state of kerala. mohini apsaras in hindu mythology , aattam in malayalam means dance. mohiniaattam means dance of enchantress . theme of mohiniaattam love , devotion god. costume worn dancers typically white coloured kasavu saree golden borders.

bhangra form of music , dance originated in punjab region of india. bhangra dance began folk dance conducted punjabi farmers celebrate coming of vaisakhi, sikh festival. specific moves reflect manner in villagers farmed land. musical art further became synthesized after partition of india, when refugees different parts of punjab shared folk dances individuals resided in regions settled in. hybrid dance became bhangra. dance started 1 move , evolved later on. has been popularized punjabi artists sikh communities, commonly associated.[1] today, bhangra dance survives in different forms , styles on globe – including pop music, film soundtracks, collegiate competitions , talent shows.
