2007: Expansion once more History of the National Rugby League

the 2007 nrl season kicked off on friday 16 march 2007 8 games each round. monday night football returned during 2007 season, first match saw sydney roosters go down south sydney rabbitohs 18–6 on 19 march 2007. opening round saw 2 matches @ brisbane s suncorp stadium, first featuring reigning champions brisbane against fellow queensland side cowboys, while second match featured new club, gold coast titans. finals series contested on period of 4 weeks, culminating nrl grand final held on sunday 30 september 2007 melbourne beat manly 34–8.


another change previous season included reduction in number of byes per team in season. odd number of teams contesting between 2002 , 2006, draw meant @ least 1 team have have bye each weekend. inclusion of 16th team 2007 season, national rugby league had option of reverting system used between 2000 , 2001 every team played each round. system not used however, rather teams given single bye during year, grouped in periods assisted clubs around representative fixtures.


following 2011 season, newly formed independent australian rugby league commission took on control of nrl.


a 2013 report conducted brand finance valued penrith panthers club @ $46.2m, highest of australian sporting brand, while brisbane broncos had highest brand equity.
