ny 27 begins @ exit 24 of i-278 (the gowanus expressway) in borough of brooklyn in new york city. first stretch through brooklyn, ny 27 runs along prospect expressway, sunken six-lane freeway through park slope , windsor terrace neighborhoods, providing interchanges fourth avenue, seventh avenue , 11th avenue. @ exit 5, eastbound ny 27 leaves prospect expressway, interchanges ocean , fort hamilton parkways before ending short distance south @ exit 6 , church avenue. eastbound ny 27 follows east 5th street caton avenue, while westbound ny 27 leaves caton avenue @ coney island avenue, follows church avenue prospect expressway.

ny 27 runs along caton avenue near south end of prospect park. couple blocks east, street merges linden boulevard, crossing eastward through brooklyn on linden. after crossing east through east flatbush, ny 27 reaches large intersection kings highway , remsen avenue, expands four-lane boulevard through brooklyn frontage roads. east of east 96th street, ny 27 crosses intersection rockaway parkway, crossing under bmt canarsie line , winds through new lots before turning northeast. after crossing under nearby subway yard, boulevard crosses through city line neighborhood. near junction ruby street, ny 27 crosses borough of queens, retains linden boulevard name.

continuing northeast through queens, ny 27 , linden boulevard enter ozone park , reach interchange conduit avenue, linden boulevard ends , ny 27 continues eastward along divided conduit avenues. becoming nassau expressway, route parallels belt parkway interchanges westbound via exit 17w. frontage road parkway, ny 27 divided on each side parkway, passing south of aqueduct racetrack. when nassau expressway (ny 878) splits off, ny 27 continues east along conduits, remaining frontage road multiple exits of limited-access highway. short distance later, route interchanges i-678 (the van wyck expressway).


entering springfield gardens, ny 27 remains frontage road, crossing multiple exits of belt parkway until entering laurelton, belt turns northward while ny 27 continues eastbound south conduit avenue , westbound sunrise highway, remains seven-lane divided boulevard (four eastbound , 3 westbound). route crosses francis lewis boulevard , south of rosedale long island rail road station , east of hook creek boulevard, ny 27 crosses nassau county , becomes sunrise highway.

sunrise highway begins 6 8 lane arterial highway in eastern queens. heads east nassau county, passing through valley stream , rockville centre on way merrick. there connects meadowbrook state parkway way of interchange. ny 27 continues through suffolk county, veers northeast, bypassing copiague. @ interchange ny 109 in west babylon, sunrise highway becomes six-lane expressway 2 two-lane service roads. route continues, meeting robert moses causeway near west islip. in east patchogue, new york, highway reduced four-lane expressway after passing ny 112 exit.


between county route 16 (cr 16) in brookhaven , cr 46 in shirley, median lined pine trees along south haven county park. setting along these roads similar 1 on southern state parkway west of belmont lake state park. last exit state highway near hampton bays, meets ny 24.


east of ny 24, sunrise highway crosses on shinnecock canal, , has 1 last eastbound exit before merging cr 39, changing names north highway, four-lane undivided highway more commonly known southampton bypass. highway continues east near toward village of southampton before ending @ intersection montauk highway. ny 27 turns east @ junction, following montauk highway toward water mill , points east.

the section of montauk highway on ny 27 runs 2 lanes wide, exception of four-lane sections in village of east hampton. section of ny 27 concurrent new york state bicycle route 27. ny 27 heads northeastward east hampton village, becomes woods lane, , later, main street. has intersection southern end of ny 114 before entering downtown. after passing newtown lane , north main street, ny 27 s name changes pantigo road, passes eponymous historic district, listed on national register of historic places.


in hamlet of amagansett, ny 27 s name changes main street, again returning montauk highway name. road becomes montauk point state parkway enters hither hills state park in napeague. parkway, robert moses-designed highway, carries ny 27 eastern terminus @ montauk point state park, on east side of montauk. final 10 miles of ny 27 known montauk point state parkway.
