general

the steeply climbing kalmitstraße road used sporting events mountain running competitions , road bicycle racing. since mai 2008 so-called stoppomat, automatic timer, has been available use of sports cyclists, runners , skaters; starting apparatus @ western exit of maikammer village (about 170 m), finish apparatus @ kalmit car park below summit, 5.75 kilometres away.


on 23 , 24 august 2009 endurance athlete, christoph fuhrbach, ran 488 kilometres (303 mi) on kalmitstraße within 24 hours, climbing total of 17,615 metres in height. ran under 6 kilometre-long stretch between maikammer , kalmit car park 42 times there , back; on 43rd ascent reached 400 metre sign @ 24‑hour point. fuhrbach beat hitherto best german performance rainer klaus, climbed 15,458 metres in height in 1996.

regular sporting events

the kalmit folding bicycle cup has been held here since 1991. folding bikes without gears allowed. competition takes place on first saturday in september.
the kalmit mountain run (kalmit-berglauf), has taken place since 1992, happens in november , seventh , final run of year in palatinate palatine mountain running cup (pfälzer berglaufpokal). on 600 runners regularly participate in mountain run. route 8,100 metres long , climbs 505 accumulated metres in height; @ 2,800 , 6,200 metres there intermediate ratings.
since 2006 cycle route of mußbach triathlon, competition basf rhine-neckar triathlon cup, has started @ neustadt, ascended kalmit , descended again maikammer.

walking routes

the kalmit waypoint on several circular walks following long distance paths in palatine forest:



a footpath signed red dots runs neustadt central station on hohe loog, or alternatively st. martin via wolselquelle , felsenmeer, each taking 1½ hours , climbing through height of around 500 m.
the footpath waymarked white , green bars runs maikammer kalmit.
