prior 2016 contest, malta had participated in junior eurovision song contest eleven times since first entry in 2003 opting not participate @ 2010, 2011 , 2012 contests. malta has won on 2 occasions: in 2013 when gaia cauchi won song start , , again in 2015 when destiny chukunyere came first not soul when won contest 185 points, breaking previous record held spain points ever given winner.
