traditionally, tribe has not been storied basketball program, though have achieved sporadic success. postseason berths ever 1983 national invitation tournament after winning regular season conference title , 2010 national invitation tournament after beating both wake forest university , university of maryland on road during regular season. tribe qualified 2015 national invitation tournament after winning first ever caa regular season title.


they have appeared in 9 conference tournament finals. while in southern conference lost tournament final in 1958, 1961, 1965, , 1975, , while in ecac south (precursor colonial athletic association) lost 1983 final james madison, 38–41. recent caa tournament final appearances came in 2008 (l, 59–68 vs. george mason), 2010 (l, 53–60 vs. old dominion), 2014 (l, 74–75 vs. delaware), , 2015 (l, 61–72 vs. northeastern).


women

the tribe women s basketball team has not been successful program. conference tournament final appearance date in 1993 caa final, lost perennial power old dominion, 51-65. 2014-15 season successful in many years , resulted in bid 2015 women s basketball invitational.
