in 114th renewal of deep south’s oldest rivalry, auburn defeated georgia 49–31. bulldogs led 21–7 @ end of first quarter 3 touchdown passes redshirt freshman quarterback aaron murray, auburn fought tie game @ 21–21 on 18-yard touchdown pass cam newton tight end philip lutzenkirchen 51 seconds remaining in first half.


the tigers began third quarter recovering onsides kick. senior kicker wes byrum recovered own kick @ auburn 41-yard line. 9 plays later, onterrio mccalebb rushed 2 yards touchdown, , auburn went ahead 28–21. first time auburn had led in game since bulldogs tied game near midway point of first quarter. auburn’s lead short-lived, bulldogs tied game @ 28–28 6 plays later on seven-yard run washaun ealey.


the tigers went ahead on ensuing drive. tigers began @ own 19-yard line, , on first play scrimmage, mccalebb rushed 48 yards georgia 33-yard line. 4 successive runs freshman tailback michael dyer , one-yard run newton gave tigers first , goal opportunity @ bulldogs 4-yard line. mccalebb scored third touchdown of day, , tigers went ahead 35–31. bulldogs finished scoring day on 28-yard field goal on final play of third quarter, tigers added 2 more touchdowns in fourth quarter.


as had been throughout of season, auburn offense led quarterback cam newton. passed 148 yards , rushed 151 yards. tigers’ victory ended four-game losing streak against bulldogs.
