karakuri puppet
karakuri puppets (からくり人形, karakuri ningyō) traditional japanese mechanized puppets or automata, made 17th century 19th century. word karakuri means mechanisms or trick . dolls gestures provided form of entertainment. 3 main types of karakuri exist. butai karakuri (舞台からくり, stage karakuri) used in theatre. zashiki karakuri (座敷からくり, tatami room karakuri) small , used in homes. dashi karakuri (山車からくり, festival car karakuri) used in religious festivals, puppets used perform reenactments of traditional myths , legends.
