the world s first android, der 01, developed japanese research group, intelligent robotics lab, directed hiroshi ishiguro @ osaka university, , kokoro co., ltd. actroid humanoid robot strong visual human-likeness developed osaka university , manufactured kokoro company ltd. (the animatronics division of sanrio). first unveiled @ 2003 international robot exposition in tokyo, japan. actroid woman pioneer example of real machine similar imagined machines called science fiction terms android or gynoid, far used fictional robots. can mimic such lifelike functions blinking, speaking, , breathing. repliee models interactive robots ability recognise , process speech , respond in kind.


karakuri puppet
karakuri puppets (からくり人形, karakuri ningyō) traditional japanese mechanized puppets or automata, made 17th century 19th century. word karakuri means mechanisms or trick . dolls gestures provided form of entertainment. 3 main types of karakuri exist. butai karakuri (舞台からくり, stage karakuri) used in theatre. zashiki karakuri (座敷からくり, tatami room karakuri) small , used in homes. dashi karakuri (山車からくり, festival car karakuri) used in religious festivals, puppets used perform reenactments of traditional myths , legends.
