in december 1915, sais filming lead role on location in mojave desert when sudden sandstorm blew in. , film crew stranded day, unable nearest settlement. suffered exposure recuperated after few days of rest in los angeles, california. in 1916 began appearing character barbara brent in horne directed western series of shorts.


by 1918 sais highly popular , publicly recognizable film personality , chosen japanese silent film matinee idol sessue hayakawa appear opposite him in series of film collaborations, first being 1918 racial drama city of dim faces followed birthright, released same year , starring hayakawa s actress wife tsuru aoki. sais collaboration hayakawa ended 1919 film bonds of honor , same year sais appeared swedish actress anna q. nilsson in moderately successful drama vanity pool.


in 1920, sais married silent western actor jack hoxie whom met on set of 1916 film tigers unchained. second marriage. 2 began appearing in number of well-received western action , adventure films. although couple divorce 7 years later, sais appear in films outside of western genre 1920 onward. 1 notable film of period bruce m. mitchell directed 1924 film hellion, featured british actor boris karloff in 1 of first prominent roles.
