history
2012-2014: formation , young

the national parks began brainchild of frontman brady parks. while studying advertising design @ brigham young university in provo, utah, parks began writing collection of acoustic-heavy narrative folk tunes. after forming group called brady parks , indianns weeks before battle of bands @ velour live music gallery, group went on record album called mossy mountain, released itunes , spotify on february 24, 2012.


the success of first release prompted him launch successful kickstarter campaign album become young.


after several lineup changes, group rebranded , started fresh national parks, march 15, 2013 marking band s first public performance. public performance hyped clever guerrilla marketing campaign. hundreds of flyers circulated around provo offered little information other mysterious line, “who national parks?” link website led video containing brief commentary popular local bands , music venue owners each explained national parks band excited about.


the group released young in 2013. album recorded @ june audio producer scott wiley , climbed #13 on itunes singer/songwriter chart. in january 2014 band released standalone single ran, written documentary film love in tetons. group donated first month of proceeds single national parks conservation association. national parks began touring around release of young. online success of album , ran helped them find growing crowds around utah in seattle, los angeles, chicago, , new york city.


2015-2016: international attention , until live

international attention came band premiere of helsinki on npr s songs considered in january 2015.


the band again worked scott wiley on second album, until live, independently released september 2015 , climbed #52 on itunes pop chart , #5 on billboard s top heatseekers chart mountain region. in march 2016, band named utah s band of year salt lake city weekly magazine. following month, monsters of north - lead single until live - announced winner of international songwriting competition unsigned artists.


as part of centennial of national park service, national parks performed @ event celebrated writer terry tempest williams national parks conservation association in june 2016. since sophomore release, band has been favorably compared wide variety of acts including foster people, civil wars, , mumford & sons, in addition own headlining shows, national parks has played acts such andy grammer, peter bjorn , john, lone bellow, leann rimes, , moth & flame , performed @ sxsw, canadian music week, school night @ bardot’s, musikfest, snowmass mammoth fest, , make music pasadena.


2017-present: places

in august 2017, national parks performed on jbtv in chicago, announcing third album, places, released september 15, 2017. music video infectious lead single, places, debuted through impose magazine on june 16, 2017. more pop infused previous releases, places features folk-pop song craft on acoustic guitar , violin, backed electronic textures.


on september 8, 2017, band launched places tour. tour conclude october 27, 2017 , take band through 19 different cities across united states.
