Construction Boscombe Surf Reef
asr ltd began repair work in mid august 2011. in october 2011 bournemouth council announced due autumn weather repair , improvement work not completed until spring 2012. asr went liquidation in september 2012. september 2013 no further work had been undertaken , reef remained closed. in october 2013 mark smith, service director tourism @ bournemouth council, quoted saying “the council has reached insurance settlement surf reef , undertaking necessary work ensure reef safe people use. progressing , reef form integral part of coastal activity park, scheduled open in spring 2014.”. bournemouth council received £306,531 in respect of 2 insurance claims damage reef, council s intention being repair reef original condition , reopen in april 2014. council registered unsecured creditor of asr sum of £14,800.
in november 2013 mark smith further quoted saying council has made clear no additional taxpayers money spent enhancing reef’s performance surfing, , position remains unchanged. plans include commercial dive centre, try-dive facility, , dive , snorkel trail around existing reef, additional submerged artifacts more experienced divers . improvements surfing , body boarding not priority in work undertaken make reef safe.
the area re-branded coastal activity park in april 2014, concentrating on diving, kite , wind surfing, along on-shore volleyball, table tennis , gym activities.
