the 2006 national rugby league season kicked off on friday, 10 march, between defending premiers wests tigers , favourites st george illawarra dragons @ telstra stadium.


melbourne, after leading competition of season, comfortably claimed minor premiership, bulldogs, brisbane, , newcastle making top four. manly, st george illawarra, canberra , parramatta took places 5 eight.


the 2006 nrl grand final won brisbane broncos on melbourne storm, 15–8. matchup significant milestone in history of nrl, 2 interstate teams (teams not new south wales, perceived heartland of nrl) contested grand final first time ever.


the game once again enjoyed immense support, more record tv ratings, particularly capturing melbourne on grand final night. crowds down on 2005, better other year prior that.
