in 1930s sound version, die zwölfte stunde – eine nacht des grauens (the twelfth hour: night of horror), less commonly known, unauthorised , re-edited version of film released in vienna (capital of austria), on 16 may 1930, sound-on-disc accompaniment, recomposition of hans erdmann s original score (by georg fiebiger, born 22. june 1901 in breslau, died in 1950 ) german production manager , composer of film music. however, sound effects only. had alternate ending happier original, characters renamed again, time count orlok s name changed prince wolkoff, knock became karsten, hutter , ellen became kundberg , margitta, , lucy being changed maria. version, of murnau unaware, contained many scenes filmed murnau not shown @ original premiere , had been taken out before being seen public audiences 8 years earlier. contained additional footage not filmed murnau himself instead cameraman günther krampf under direction of unknown dr. waldemar roger (also known waldemar ronger), supposedly film editor , lab chemist. name of silent film director f. w. murnau no longer mentioned in preamble. version (edited approx. 80 min. running time) presented on 5 june 1981 @ french cinematheque. in recent 2012 restoration of film, friedrich wilhelm murnau stiftung, claim have several copies of version. film banned in sweden, ban lifted after 20 years , has since been shown on television.
