marietta college member of ncaa division iii , ohio athletic conference, 10-team collegiate conference founded in 1902 , third-oldest in nation. pioneers compete in 22 varsity sports, including teams in crew, baseball, track & field, women s soccer, softball. added men s , women s golf athletic department 2017 season, , lacrosse 2018.
marietta’s baseball team has won 6 national championships, ncaa division iii record: in 1981, 1983, 1986, 2006, 2011 , 2012. first 3 under legendary coach don schaly, died on march 9, 2005; 3 recent under coach brian brewer. repeating national champions in 2011 , 2012 pioneers became first team in ncaa division iii play since rowan university profs won back championships in 1978 , 1979. 5 former pioneer baseball players—kent tekulve, duane theiss, jim tracy, terry mulholland , matt desalvo—have reached major league level.
the crew program competes @ annual dad vail regatta each spring in both men s , women s events, , earned gold medal in men s varsity 8 in 2006, , gold medals in women s varsity 8 in 2011, 2012, , 2014. alumni include two-time olympian , ceo of boathouse sports, john strotbeck, jr., , 2003 world championship silver medalist in usa lightweight eight, andrew bolton.

marietta offers variety of intramural athletics men , women. examples of intramural programs are: flag football, softball, indoor volleyball, racquetball, basketball, dodgeball, etc. many of these activities organized , maintained student population.
