qing dynasty
when manchus conquered china , founded qing dynasty, manchu , han chinese peoples struggled power. kangxi emperor wanted resolve disputes held banquet during 66th birthday celebrations. banquet consisted of manchu , han dishes, officials both ethnic groups attending banquet together. after wuchang uprising, common people learned imperial banquet. original meal served in forbidden city in beijing.
preparation
the meal prepared comprising 6 banquets on 3 days on 300 dishes. altogether there said have been 196 main dishes , 124 snack dishes, total of 320 dishes sampled on 3 days. depending on how dishes counted samples, @ absolute minimum there 108 dishes. emperor, after previewing dishes, gave feast present name. feast divided inner-palace , outer-palace banquets; imperial family , meritorious officials, including han officials above second rank, invited inner-palace banquets. book qianlong era gives detailed description of feast , dishes , ingredients.

it said there thirty-two delicacies , referring more exotic ingredients used banquet. 8 mountain delicacies includes such dishes camel s hump, bear s paws, monkey s brains, ape s lips, leopard fetuses, rhinoceros tails , deer tendons. 8 land delicacies includes several precious fowls , mushrooms, , 8 sea delicacies includes dried sea cucumbers, shark s fin, bird s nest , others.
