Libyan civil war battle Al-Qawalish

it captured libyan rebels on 7 july 2011 during nafusa mountains campaign of 2011 libyan civil war. 9 rebels killed in six-hour battle, no information on casualties pro-gaddafi forces.


an earlier attempt made capture village @ end of prior month of june. between 30 june , 3 july, rebels attempted advance kikla toward town of al-qawalish (which holds western , eastern part, separated canyon). if took town road open gharyan. however, rebels unable move forward , 9 opposition fighters killed , dozens wounded. during battle, loyalist snipers took positions on water tower between al-qawalish , rebel positions, few hundred meters away, @ kikla.


on 6 july, rebels launched attack on al-qawalish hundreds of fighters. did after nato aircraft intensified bombing of area , gave rebels green light advance. after several hours rebel fighters advanced couple of kilometers towards al-qawalish. al-qawalish captured after 6 hours of fighting. 1 rebel fighter reportedly killed , 5 wounded during opposition offensive. unclear how many government soldiers killed. confirmed photos , videos.


on 13 july, loyalist forces attacked qawalish again, , time rebels retreated. of them claimed reason being pull-back ran out of ammunition. government troops started attack after group of rebels attempted advance east of town toward gharyan. loyalists swept through qawalish east , reached far checkpoint on western edge of village. still, evening, rebels counter-attacked , after five-hour battle retook town , chased loyalist forces outskirts of asabah. during fighting, 2 rebels killed , 17 wounded.
